If you're looking for a way to manage your medical claims, your online member account is the way to go.

To get started, log in to your account online or through our free BCBSTX App and click on Claims.

You can view claims from the past 18 months. You can also search and filter claims to help find the information you need. Filter by member, claim type, claim status and health service provider. You can also download or print claims information.

When you download your claims information, you can select one or more claims and download the information to one spreadsheet. The file will show the type of claim and itemized cost information.

Each claim comes with an Explanation of Benefits, a quick guide to help you better understand your claims information. Your EOB will break down the services you received, the cost of the services and what you might have to pay.

Want updates about your claims status? Log in to your member account. Go to My Account, Profile and Preferences and open Notification Preferences. Choose alerts by email, text or both.

GLP-1s are a class of drugs commonly used to treat Type 2 diabetes. But some GLP-1s are also FDA approved for treating obesity and obesity-related conditions.

Here’s what you need to know.

What are GLP-1s?
GLP-1 is a hormone that helps control blood sugar and increase insulin production. While your body naturally produces GLP-1, how much is made can slow because of things like chronic stress, poor gut health and hormone changes.

GLP-1 drugs, or GLP-1s, can help cause the same responses in the body when the body’s hormone isn’t working as well as it should.

How do GLP-1s work for weight loss?
GLP-1s also slow down how quickly food digests and leaves your stomach, so you feel full faster and longer after eating.

Combined, this can help you lose weight.

And make sure to combine your prescription with healthy lifestyle changes like diet and exercise. Using GLP-1s alone won’t give you lasting results.

What are the benefits of using GLP-1s for weight loss?
Along with diet and exercise, GLP-1s help with weight loss by curbing your appetite. They make you feel full faster so that you eat less.

Which GLP-1s are FDA approved for weight loss?
Several types of GLP-1s are approved for weight loss and other conditions besides diabetes. The brand names to look for are Wegovy® (semaglutide), Saxenda (liraglutide) and Zepbound® (tirzepatide). FDA approval means doctors can prescribe them for weight loss.

What are the risks and side effects of GLP-1s?
The most reported side effects are nausea, diarrhea and stomach pain, and reactions at the injection site.

Some underlying health issues can put you at risk of worse side effects, like gallbladder problems or swelling of the pancreas.

Are GLP-1s through online sources safe?
It’s important to use GLP-1s only under the care of a doctor you know and trust.

There are many products being sold online that may not be approved by the FDA. Drugs that are not FDA-approved may not be as safe or effective. Check the FDA website for concerns about using these drugs that could put your health at risk.

Does insurance cover GLP-1s for weight loss?
Most plans don’t cover GLP-1s for weight loss. However, doctors can prescribe GLP-1s without it being a covered benefit. This means you will pay out-of-pocket for the prescription.

Check your plan benefits. If part of your benefits, you likely will need approval from your health plan before you start treatment. Be sure to talk to your doctor about your options. Work together to decide what is best for you.

Convenient Ways to Pay Your Bill

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas offers several ways to pay your premium each month. Choose the best option for you. There are a few things to keep in mind about your health care premium.

Your health plan coverage won’t start until you make your first premium payment. Pay it before you go to the doctor, fill a prescription or use any plan benefits.
Each month you will get a bill for your premium. You can use your health benefits as long as you keep your payments current. Your payment keeps your coverage active.
Log in to Blue Access for Members^SM for payment options and up to date claim details.

Online Payments

Log in to your BAM account and select Billing and Payments. You’ll be redirected to a secure website to pay with a credit or debit card.

Auto Bill Pay

Log in to your BAM account to set up recurring monthly payments. Select Payments and Billing to manage Auto Bill Pay. You can also call Customer Service toll free at 888-697-0683.
Keep in mind, credit cards cannot be used for auto bill pay.

Pay by Phone

To make a one-time payment:

Call Customer Service at 888-697-0683 and choose Make a Payment.
Have your BCBSTX member ID number, bank routing number and bank account number ready.

Pay by Mail

You can pay with a personal check, cashier’s check or money order.

Make the check payable to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas or BCBSTX.
Write your account/member ID number on your personal check, cashier’s check or money order.
Include the payment coupon sent with your bill.
Send your payment at least five business days before its due date to ensure timely posting to your account.
Mail your payment to the address on your bill.

Pay In-Person

This option is not available for your first premium payment. After your first premium has been made, you can pay your other monthly premiums with cash at MoneyGram^®*
Bring a copy of your bill, which includes your account or billing ID number and your "receive code," with your payment.
MoneyGram locations in Walmart and Albertsons stores also take debit card payments.

How do I submit a claim for services received internationally?

When you receive eligible medical services from a doctor or health care facility while traveling outside the United States, you'll need to submit a medical claim to Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) Global Core for review.

Here's how you can get started:

Visit: www.bcbsglobalcore.com .
Read and accept the terms
Enter the two or three letters (called an alpha prefix) at the head of your member ID card
Click "Go"
On the next screen, choose "Claims Forms"
Click the link to download the “International Claim Form”
Check page 2 for Instructions about submitting your claim

You can email your completed claim form and any attachments to claims@bcbsglobalcore.com.

You can also send itemized bills and receipts – along with your completed International Claim form – to this address:

Please include as many of the following items as possible:

The letterhead indicating the name and address of the person or organization providing the services

How do I change my PCP?

You can change your HMO or Point of Service plan PCP online in your BAM^SMaccount. Just log in and click on Find Care to find network provider options in your area.

Once you’re ready to make your choice, click Change PCP and follow the prompts to choose your new provider. After that has been done, we’ll update our files and your digital member ID card to show the new PCP you chose.

If you still have questions about changing your PCP or need help, call customer service at the number on your member ID card.

Congratulations on purchasing your new health insurance plan. If you’re wondering when you can start using your plan or when you can expect your member ID card, read on. We’ve got answers to questions that may be swirling around in your head right now.

Q. Has my coverage started? Can I use my health plan?
A. Your very first premium payment will activate your coverage. You can begin using your health plan within one to two days after that – depending on the way you choose to pay your premium.

After you've made your first payment, your coverage is activated.

There is a brief period of time known as the “coverage gap.” This is the period between your requested effective date and the date of your first payment. Health care expenses charged during the coverage gap can be applied to your deductible. You may even be reimbursed for some health care services.

Q. I need to get a prescription filled, but don't have my ID card yet. What can I do?
A. You should receive a new member welcome letter a few days after completing your enrollment. Your member identification and group number are listed on the welcome letter. Your pharmacy can use them to verify your benefits. Remember, you need to pay your first premium before you can start using your benefits. Using the same information from your welcome letter, you can also register for Blue Access for Members^SM(BAM) and print a temporary ID card to use until your regular member ID arrives in the mail. You can also download the BCBSTX app to place your ID card in your Passbook.

Q. I applied for a plan on the Health Insurance Marketplace, but haven't heard if my application has been received and accepted. Did my coverage start on the effective date I requested?
A. We receive new applications from the Marketplace every day. It takes a few days for the Marketplace to complete their processing and send the application to us. Once we receive it, it takes about five to 10 business days for us to process your enrollment.

If you just applied recently, we encourage you to wait a few days to see if you receive your membership information. If you applied weeks ago and haven’t received anything from us, your application may need additional information.

If you applied on the Health Insurance Marketplace or with us online and haven’t received information from us after a few weeks, call our Customer Service Center at 1-888-731-0383. We can look up the status of your application.

Q. When will I get my member ID cards, and how many will I get?
A. You should get your member ID cards in the mail soon after your application is approved. Individual and family PPO members will receive no more than two membership ID cards. Please note that all member ID cards will just list the subscriber’s name, but the cards can be used by all of the dependents enrolled under the policy. HMO Individual and family plans will get a card for each member enrolled.

You can print a temporary ID card and request additional cards through your Blue Access for Members (BAM) account. You’ll need your member identification number and group number to register for BAM. These numbers can be found on the new member welcome letter you should receive within days of enrolling.

Q. I received my ID cards in the mail, but they only have my name on them and not my spouse's. Can I get another ID card with their name on it?
A. No need! Your member ID cards only list the primary subscriber's name, but they can be used by all of the dependents (in this case your spouse) enrolled under your policy.

Protecting Your Protected Health Information (PHI)

Have you ever felt nervous making a withdrawal from an ATM? Maybe someone was hovering a little too close for comfort. You may have wondered, “Did that person just see me enter my PIN?”

Many of us have had our purse nabbed or wallet stolen. In the wrong hands, we worry our driver’s license, medical ID card and credit cards will be used to create havoc in our lives. With personal information in the hands of the wrong person, our identities can be stolen online, too.

Every day, stolen identities are used in health insurance scams. Luckily, you can take steps to keep your protected health information (PHI) in the right hands.

Keep Your Information Secure
Your PHI is safe when it’s only shared with people you trust. PHI includes medical records and other health-related documents that list personal data. This personal data is usually your:

Address
Birthdate
Social Security Number

If you’re not sure what is and isn’t PHI, ask yourself these questions:

Does the document show anything linked to my health condition?
Is my name on the document?
Can I be identified by anything shown on the document?
Is the account I use to pay for care listed?

Keep in mind, if the document isn’t related to your health, it may not be PHI.

Standard Authorization Form
A standard authorization form lets you choose who has access to information about your health conditions and claims. For example, you might allow Blue Cross and Blue Shield to talk with your daughter if she’s helping manage your care. You can easily access and download the form anytime you need it using our Form Finder tool. (Search for “Privacy Standard Authorization Form” in the Search bar.)

Using the form is your choice. You don’t have to use it if you don’t want anyone to have access to your information. We won’t release your PHI to anyone unless you give us permission to do so.

PHI and Covered Dependents
After every health claim is finalized, an Explanation of Benefits is provided. An EOB shows a breakdown of services received, along with their costs and what you might have to pay. Available on Blue Access for Members^SM, an EOB also displays PHI. What does this mean if there is more than one family member on a health plan?

If you cover dependents on your health plan, you don’t need a standard authorization form to receive or view their EOB information in BAM. However, only the policyholder can view an EOB.

Dependents can’t see their EOB or an EOB for anyone else on the plan. Only the policyholder can share an EOB with their dependents. It can be shared by printing a copy from BAM or emailing it.

If you’d like your dependent to be able to request a paper copy of an EOB for someone else on the plan, you’ll need to submit a standard authorization form.

Always be aware of your PHI. Protect it so it’s only shared with people you choose.

Planning to visit the doctor or fill a prescription at a new pharmacy soon? You’ll want to have your member ID card handy. If you’ve misplaced or lost yours, you can download, print or request a new card on Blue Access for Members^SM.

Here’s a quick look at what you need to know:

Print or download a member ID card.
If you need a member ID card today for an appointment or pharmacy visit, you can get one on BAM. Log in to BAM^SM. If you haven’t registered yet, you’ll need your group and individual member ID numbers. You can find both on the welcome letter you received from us. After you log in, click on "Member ID Card” at the top. From there, you can view and download a digital ID card.

Request a new ID card.
You can also order a new ID card. Log in to BAM. If you haven’t registered yet, you’ll need your group and individual member ID numbers. You can find both on the welcome letter you received from us. After you log in, click on "Member ID Card” at the top. From there, click on "Order a New Member ID Card.” Confirm your address and submit your request. Your card will be sent to you within two weeks.

As a member of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, your Blue Access for Members^SM account puts important health plan information at your fingertips.

Set up your BAM account to:

Find a doctor or hospital in-network
Check claim status and history
Share your update preference (email or SMS text messages)
Review billing and payment history
Read helpful tips and wellness articles
Connect with a Customer Advocate

To get started, you'll need:

A valid personal email address to confirm your registration
The member ID number on your ID card and member welcome letter

To register for BAM, follow these simple steps:

Go to the Log In page. Choose Create an Account.
Review the Terms of Use. If you agree to the terms detailed, click I Accept.
On the next page, enter your name, date of birth, and the member ID number on your BCBSTX member ID card.
On the following page, enter your personal email address and set up your username and password.
- Your username must be at least eight characters and include only letters and numbers.
- Your password must have at least eight characters and include an uppercase and lowercase letter, a number and special character.
Once you’ve completed this section, click Create Login to go to the Email Confirmation page. Look for an email confirming your new account and click Verify.
Once you receive your confirmation, you’ll be asked to return to the login page to sign in using your new username and password.

If you prefer, you can use the BCBSTX App to register. The BCBSTX App makes it easy to access BAM on the go. With it, you can make the most of your benefits — anytime, anywhere.
