When I sat down to interview Blue Bear, I found that there was no time for sitting. In fact, Blue Bear had us both on the run—jogging in place for a minute followed by 30 seconds of jumping jacks. A bear of few words, Blue Bear speaks almost exclusively in the language of hugs, but he fur sure still gets the message out about the importance of health and wellness.
Paid only in smiles, last year Blue Bear made 227 appearances at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas-sponsored community and company events as well as many children’s hospitals. Anywhere this furry health and wellness ambassador visits, he brings his signature warm and fuzzy hugs with him.
Where can you see Blue Bear on the job?
Blue Bear has planned appearances and random acts of hugging throughout the state of Texas. He can often be found wherever the Healthy Kids, Healthy Families initiatives are located. From building the KaBOOM! playgrounds to sharing a ride in Caring for Children Foundation’s Care Van to help kids get immunized, Blue Bear makes sharing health and wellness for kids of all ages his number one priority.
