Has Anyone Tried an ESA for Anxiety? Does It Actually Help?

I've been dealing with anxiety for about two years now and lately it's been affecting my sleep and daily routine. I've tried a few things but nothing has really stuck long-term.

A friend mentioned getting an Emotional Support Animal and honestly I brushed it off at first - but the more I read about it, the more it seems like there's real science behind the companionship aspect.

Has anyone here actually gone through the process of getting an ESA letter? Was it worth it? I'm in Colorado so I've been looking at ESA Letter Colorado - seems straightforward but I wanted to hear from real people before moving forward.

Also curious -do ESAs actually help with anxiety specifically, or is it more for depression and loneliness? And does the type of animal matter, or is a cat just as effective as a dog?

Would love to hear from anyone who's been through this.
