The Heart of Texas Autism Network, (HOTAN) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation based in Waco Texas, that helps children and adults affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), their families and the community in the Heart of Central Texas area - the "254" area code. Our mission is to empower individuals, families, and communities, touched by Autism Spectrum Disorder to live fulfilling lives. We work to create, improve, and implement resources to help people with ASD live, work, and participate as fully and independently as possible in our society. We do this by advocating, networking, researching, and referring. In addition, we help give financial assistance when funds are available. Activities and programs offered by HOTAN, or HOTAN sponsors, are either at no cost or at low cost.
The Heart of Texas Autism Network works with other organizations to give information, resources and assistance for events, conferences and activities. HOTAN attends Admission Review and Dismissal*(ARD) meetings with parents of children on the spectrum, and has parent support groups on a quarterly basis to help parents and professionals with resources. We also support or host networking opportunities. HOTAN has supported organizations with funding for adult internships, camp scholarships, and assistive technology devices, to name a few. HOTAN is involved with groups that offer sensory friendly outings to restaurants, recreational activities as well as integration into the community. The success of our organization and our outreach is dependent entirely upon the financial and in-kind product support from corporations and private sponsors.
HOTAN has partnered with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) for items like bags, magnets, flyers and other merchandise to give to families at events such as our 5K, Christmas parties and other outings. BCBSTX has also been a monetary sponsor for HOTAN at our 5K events and is a participant at our events giving resources to our families in attendance.
