If I begin Medicare Advantage on December 1, 2014, what happens to my spouse's coverage from December 1-31, 2014?  Is my spouse no longer covered?  What are the options for spouse coverage in the new year?  Is COBRA an option?

  • My colleague's spouse has already been taken care of, so that's moot now. This question is part of a decision for myself, as well, over the next two years and I want to know what will happen if I continue BCBS coverage after moving to medicare advantage coverage. Let's say I have a spouse. My spouse will be insured on my group plan as a spouse, but I switch to Medicare Advantage on May 1, 2015. Could I continue to pay the premium for my spouse for the remainder of the year without paying the premium for myself? If not, what options are available to my spouse? Individual plan, of course. Anything else? I would really like an answer. Waiting on queue in your phone loop is not an option for me. I work at a desk that is on display at all times and personal business phone calls not only disturb my colleagues/patrons, but are not allowed. Please answer this question.
