Pregnancy is a time of excitement and planning, but it's also a time of questions and concerns. We want to make sure you have the support you need as you go through this special journey.

Our Special Beginnings® program is designed to help you stay on track with health care for each trimester of your pregnancy and after your baby is born. Once enrolled, we’ll help you get the answers and support you need every step of the way. This program is offered as part of your Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas benefits at no additional cost.

We recommend you enroll as early as possible once you know you’re pregnant. You will want to take advantage of all the benefits of the program through each stage of your pregnancy.

Prenatal care

During pregnancy, you have access to a Care Coordinator (trained nurse). They can help you set up doctor visits and tests. If you have health issues, they are there to help make sure you get the care you need. Your Care Coordinator will check in with you regularly and is available if you need to reach out. You will also have access to educational classes and info to help you learn about what to expect and how to make good choices to stay healthy.

Post-Partum care

After your baby is born, you still have support as a new parent. Your Care Coordinator can let you know how to find information about post-partum care. They will talk with you about how you and your baby are doing. Having trouble getting enough sleep? Dealing with depression? They will guide you to resources to help.

Newborn care

Learn about good nutrition, breastfeeding, parenting and more with online resources. Also check out helpful information on many topics such as home visit programs and vaccines.
