Calendars Fill Quickly, Schedule Your Mammogram Early

Ladies, ever book a doctor’s appointment in advance?  What about your mammogram?

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and scheduling your mammogram now may help you:

  • Make sure your preferred location is in-network
  • Book time on the calendar
  • Register for the Rewards and Incentives program, you may earn a $25 gift card

Here are some thoughts on how you can get ready for your mammogram. These tips might help make your screening day easier.

Preparing for Your Mammogram

The goal of cancer screening exams, like a mammogram, is to find cancers at an early enough stage to treat them with success.

Wondering what to do before your exam?  The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services offers these tips in the Mammograms & Breast Health, An Informative Guide for Women

  • Skip wearing deodorant, perfume or powder as they may look like white spots in the x-ray.
  • Wear what’s comfortable, as you’ll undress from your waist up and wear a gown.
  • Be ready to talk about any breast symptoms or changes with your health care team.

Also, if you’re changing your mammogram screening location or seeing a new doctor, have earlier mammograms sent to the new place before your appointment. This will let the radiologist compare the images and check for changes in your breasts.

Prevention has its Rewards!

Now that you’ve had your mammogram, you may earn a $25 gift card. Medicare Advantage members can earn rewards for taking better care of themselves.

Why not treat yourself for caring for your health?  Just a friendly reminder, registration is needed.

 Mammogram Screening Results

After your mammogram, your results will be sent to your doctor for review.  Next, you’ll likely see a letter in the mail with your results. The letter may have recommendations for follow ups.

Your doctor will know what’s best for you and when you should have your next screening. Follow up with your doctor for any questions you might have.
